Celebrating 20 years of Rainmaker with a global, multi media project!
“I am not surprised that ‘Rainmaker’ has gone down so well in schools as the songs are both fun and accessible.” - Sir Cameron Mackintosh
It’s a great privilege and a small miracle to be able to say that my musicals connect me with a global ‘family’ and tens of thousands of children. They’ve been performed in 52 countries on 6 continents, in venues that range from the Royal Opera House in London to the streets of India and Rio de Janeiro and to audiences that once included the late Queen.
You can research, hire or purchase all my musicals at Firesticks & Song.
Rainmaker - The Musical
Rainmaker is the perfect musical to lead us into a more equitable and interconnected world, where we can find our balance within nature and understand that the wellbeing of each one of us is dependent on the wellbeing of the whole.
Young people everywhere care passionately about our planet and are leading the fight for a better world.
Written almost 20 years ago, Rainmaker’s themes are in alignment with the most pressing issues and concerns of today:
harmony with and respect for the natural world
our interdependence and connectedness, highlighted by the pandemic
climate change
lessons in being human that bring balance and healing from studying the ‘medicine’ of animals.
The original production has been performed by thousands of children all over the world, from Borneo to Barcelona and from Australia to Zambia, in theatres, Arts centres and summer camps, by whole communities and by children on the streets of India. It was even used as the basis for a whole year’s work in one British Primary school.
We’ve received many unsolicited comments from children and teachers, so we know for sure that a production in schools will contribute a great deal to a ‘Happiness’ curriculum and we anticipate great opportunities to link you globally as plans develop.
Lullaby of the Tides - From shore to shore a bridge of song
a series of multi-media events that will take place around the world.
Working with schools and indigenous communities worldwide, our new song cycle aims to help participants engage both heart and head whilst exploring our universal connections and fostering empathy. At the heart of the cycle, are 6 songs and 4 pageants from ‘Rainmaker.
The second section, led by elders from Africa, Australia, U.S.A., Canada and New Zealand, provides a commentary on the universal journey of life for people of many cultures, past and present, that casts light on the things that connect and unite us; what we believe; the animals that silently teach us and ‘all the light we cannot see’. Songs, pageants and dances are accompanied by acrostic poems highlighting important aspects of each culture. The inaugural concert was at the spectacular Minack Theatre on the clifftops of Cornwall in July.
